Writing a Technical Research Paper (Do's and Don't's)


The following is a list of criteria that must be met in order to produce an effective, though-provoking and interesting research paper, as discussed in class:
  1. It must NOT be lab-based. 
  2. There should be a Substantial number of References
  3. These References should be listed at the end of the paper following the APA Style Sheet.
  4. Intellectual substance (philosophy, mathematics, sociology, scientific theory) MUST be present.
  5. The proposal should invite: (a) linguistic finesse, (b) consideration of multiple academic disciplines (c) certain fundamental and invariable theories challenged by new findings
  6. It should NOT be easily understood by a student (say for example, a student of O' Levels), and instead should be able to excite and demand understanding of a full tenured Professor aged 50 at a university. 
  7. There should be the X Factor: Sophisticated and Atypical
